Yes, that's a mushroom.

From a gorgeous little shop near Ueno Park, Torindo sells three surreal selections of gochika, candied fruit and vegetables. The orange box (left) includes pear, lotus root, fig, and orange peel. The green box (right) has celery, kumquat, carrot, shiitake, and burdock. I passed on the yellow assortment (chinese pear, eggplant, ginger, bamboo)--just too tame.
